Servers

Windows and UNIX / Linux Servers are available for both packages:

Windows servers were the first available and provide sterling service for the majority of our hosted websites. They offer a range of scripting facilities for those who want to build advanced websites including Active Server Pages (using .asp files), Common Gateway Interface (.cgi files) and Microsoft Access Databases.

For a small additional annual charge (which our supplier charges us and we pass on without a mark-up) FrontPage Extensions can be installed on Windows accounts. Microsoft FrontPage is a web-authoring programme which combines designing and writing web pages with uploading them to the server. Pages can also be uploaded to these servers using FTP (File Transfer Protocol) programmes.

More recently, Commskit brought Unix/Linux servers into operation and they are increasingly used to provide innovative services using .php scripts and MySQL databases as well as .cgi and all the basic web hosting facilities. Pages are normally uploaded to these servers using FTP (File Transfer Protocol) programmes.
